The Season for Giving

We have so many wonderful opportunities to give at New Groningen during the holiday season. In Social Studies, we are learning about the difference between Wants and Needs. We have been sorting objects based on whether they are something we need to survive, or something we want for pleasure.
We have discussed that many around us are not as fortunate as we are, and Christmas is a season of giving to others.

The first opportunity to give is to bring in canned vegetables for the Community Action House. Every classroom is collecting something different. We hope to really make an impact when it comes to give to those less fortunate.

The second is an opportunity to give to our own classmates. The note below describes a book exchange we will do during our Christmas party.

Dear Families,

During our Christmas party on Friday, December 20, we will have a class book exchange. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to practice giving and receiving, and to share a wonderful book with a classmate that your child has picked out themself.

Please bring in a book that costs less than $3. Boys will exchange books with other boys, and girls will exchange books with other girls. Please wrap the book with your child, and label it with only who the book is from (your child’s name). The recipient of the book your child brings in will be random. Every child will then leave with a new book to take home!

Thank you so much for your help with this! Please contact me if you have any questions or need suggestions for places to find books that fit our cost criteria.

Thank you for all your generosity!
